High Arch / Cavus Foot: Assessment, Treatment & Recovery

A high-arch (cavus) foot can concentrate pressure on the heel and forefoot and may be associated with instability, calluses or an underlying neurological condition.

What we assess and consider

Assessment of foot shape, balance, calluses, ankle stability and possible underlying causes; footwear, orthoses and strengthening may be considered, with corrective procedures for selected cases.

Common reasons for assessment

  • Repeated ankle sprains or instability
  • Pressure pain beneath heel or forefoot
  • Calluses or toe deformity with a high arch
Recovery and next steps: Management aims to improve comfort and stability and reduce pressure points. New or progressive deformity should be medically assessed. Treatment decisions are made after an individual clinical assessment; not every patient needs surgery.
