Post-Surgical Rehabilitation: Assessment, Treatment & Recovery
Post-surgical rehabilitation supports safe recovery after orthopaedic procedures, following the surgeon’s protocol and the patient’s healing progress.
What we assess and consider
Review of surgical instructions; safe transfers and walking; swelling and pain management; gradual range-of-motion and strength work; progress reviews.
Common reasons for assessment
- Recovery after joint replacement
- Rehabilitation after fracture fixation
- Recovery after ligament or other orthopaedic surgery
Recovery and next steps: The programme must follow procedure-specific restrictions, including weight-bearing and range-of-motion limits. Contact the surgical team for unexpected wound changes, fever or worsening symptoms. Treatment decisions are made after an individual clinical assessment; not every patient needs surgery.
