Fracture & Trauma Emergency Care: Assessment, Treatment & Recovery
Orthopaedic trauma care addresses fractures and serious musculoskeletal injuries. Prompt assessment helps identify injuries, protect circulation and nerves, and plan stabilisation.
What we assess and consider
Initial assessment of injury and vital risks; examination of skin, circulation and nerve function; X-rays or other imaging; stabilisation and definitive treatment based on injury severity.
Common reasons for assessment
- Fractures after falls, road traffic or sports injuries
- Dislocations and complex limb injuries
- Multiple injuries requiring coordinated assessment
Recovery and next steps: Suspected major fracture, open wound, severe deformity, uncontrolled bleeding or a cold/numb limb requires emergency care. Do not attempt to realign an injury yourself. Treatment decisions are made after an individual clinical assessment; not every patient needs surgery.
